Letter From the President

August 1, 2024

Dear Bronco Families,

I’m so excited to welcome both our new and returning families to McKinney Boyd High School for the upcoming school year!  We at the PTO are very proud to be a part of the Boyd family and are thrilled to be back supporting ALL of our Broncos. Last year was a huge success and we were able to support a variety of school and staff programs throughout the year.

We need your support!

First we ask that you join the PTO as a member - your dues allow us to provide all these great programs that support our awesome Boyd students and teachers. We are now using Membership Toolkit (you may be familiar from various other MISD groups), so please log in and/or create an account to access our site!  Your membership does not require you to volunteer or obligate you in any way.  However, we LOVE our volunteers, and there are many opportunities to get involved. Our biggest need is with the School Store: we sell snacks, drinks, and spirit wear during the lunch periods daily, and we need volunteers to make this program a success.  It’s our biggest source of income, and the kids are happy to see us each day!  The Staff Appreciation committee will also be asking for help with providing donations of food or drink items throughout the year for their events. By filling out the volunteer section of the form, you’ll be added to the appropriate list and emailed with opportunities to donate or volunteer as you are able.

The PTO will be offering new Spirit Wear (including yard signs) this year to show off our Bronco spirit.  These items are offered for sale at lunchtime in the School Store, at Bronco Camp, and at various school events. You may also purchase online and pick up on Fridays at the school store. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards for payment.

For membership questions, please contact Jennifer Gilliam at boydptomembership@gmail.com.  For questions about volunteering, please contact Gwen Williams at boydptovolunteers@gmail.com.  Please follow us on Facebook or Instagram @mbhspto for the most up to date PTO information and events.  We wish all our Bronco families a successful and healthy year ahead.  GO BRONCOS!!

Penny Maple, Boyd PTO President (boydptopresident@gmail.com)

We will have our Bronco Shop open for spirit wear and membership sales at the following schoolwide events:

  • August 3rd   Freshman Bronco Camp
  • September 13th Homecoming Pep Rally
  • September 18th Meet the Principal at PTO General Meeting
  • October 3rd Pep Rally
  • October 25th Pep Rally

Accomplishments

Our biggest accomplishments include:

School Store - We sell snacks, drinks, and spirit wear daily during lunch. The kids (and staff) love it!

Teacher Needs -  We provided extra classroom and project supplies, over and above teacher budgets.

Communities in Schools - Back-to-school supplies and backpacks, and our annual tradition of supporting the winter Holiday Food project, which provides food and a holiday meal for Boyd families in need.

Scholarships - We were able to significantly increase our scholarship awards to graduating seniors through the McKinney Education Foundation this year.  We created a new endowment called the Steadfast Supporter award that gave $2500 to a family who had been PTO members for all four years!  We also awarded four $1000 scholarships (two for PTO members, two selected from all Boyd applicants) and four $1000 First In Family scholarships to graduating seniors who are the first in their families to receive their high school diploma.

Staff Appreciation - We provided various meals and snacks to our hardworking Boyd Staff

Project Graduation and MISD Police Academy - We made donations to these awesome programs.
